A better deal for you than for your enemies because a.) you go first, and b.) you're smarter than your enemy and can plan your re-equiped item usage better than the AI. Pirate - Both you and your enemies start each fight with Re-Equip Next. Too bad I've never seen it on any of my playthroughs. The best rule in the game and the only one that unequivocally helps you. Ned - All equipment you find is upgraded. On the other hand, your poison damage gets ramped up for every fight you're in. Poison dealers are few and far between, and this only amounts to about 10 damage in a four-turn fight, easily soaked. Haunted Jar - Poison is no longer reduced by 1 each turn. You'll automatically have this rule at the start of Hard Mode Floor 1. Lady Luck - All enemy equipment is upgraded. Here is the complete list of rules you can trigger in Bonus Rounds, and my opinion on each of them (conveniently sorted into categories): Unavoidable Therein, your mileage may vary on how difficult each character is, but by following basic strategy, abusing cloud saves and mid-match quits, and knowing what rules to take and what to avoid, you'll get through Hard Mode in a reasonable amount of time.įor each Hard Mode Round you complete, you'll unlock one achievement, culminating in six achievements for defeating all six Hard Mode rounds.Ĭomplete any bonus round episode in hard mode. I've had other players tell me the opposite was true: that they had severe troubles with the Jester but they didn't have any trouble with the Witch. Oddly enough though, I once again had an easy time with the Jester. Unfortunately, I had all sorts of problems with the Witch, and had to restart a few times due to bad rule combinations and being put into unwinnable situations. Things got a little harder for me on Robot and Inventor, but I was easily able to handle it on my first try. For instance, I found Hard Mode on Warrior to be relatively easy, as well as with the Thief. One final note: even though it's called "Hard Mode," there is a very big difference in difficulty between all the characters. As runs only take about 45 minutes on Hard Mode (assuming all goes well), it's often better to do this than to bang your head against the wall dealing with a terrible situation. If this happens, don't get discouraged, just quit and restart. ![]() Also, occasionally you'll just have some terrible luck with a decision taken early in the round coming back to bite you late in the round (e.g., getting the 5 damage for using fire dice rule, then facing Buster as the final boss). Feel free to absolutely abuse the "quit mid-fight" method as well, although keep in mind, even when doing this, your opening roll in a fight will be the same as on your previous attempts. If you get bad RNG and/or take too much damage when facing enemies, remember you can always restore your cloud save to get a better result. Some general advice: make sure you make "cloud saves" both before exiting a level as well as before facing a tough group of enemies. And remember, if you wind up picking a rule that turns out to be absolutely destroying your run, and you don't have the proper cloud save to get rid of it, always feel free to just restart Hard Mode, as this may be the faster way to get a completion (considering runs take 30-45 minutes apiece). Even within these categories, there may be some difficulty variance depending on what character and build you are using, so make sure to use the lists below in conjunction with your own judgement upon choosing a rule. If you need help on what rule to take, see the "Hard Mode Rules" list below for my opinion on each rule.įor convenience, I've broken down my opinions into categories titled: Good, Neutral, Bleh, Bad, Horrible, and Supremely Class Dependent. Then, compare this "random rule" to the other rule offered and use the cloud save trick to switch rules if needed. Therein, before exiting a floor during Hard Mode, I HIGHLY recommend you make a "cloud save" (see General section for how to do this) before exiting the floor, then always taking the random option to see what it is. You'll need to select one new rule to continue, and these rules will make a HUGE difference whether you succeed or fail the round. You'll be presented with two rules, one from the list below, and one "randomized" rule (though if you reload the game using a cloud save, the "random" rule will always roll the same way). ![]() The one big difference in strategy in Hard Mode is in what rule to take when going to the next floor. For each character, the same strategies you've been using to get through the miscellaneous achievements still apply. ![]()
